Choosing vehicles
Select the cargo before comparing vehicles. The vehicle catalogue filters compatible options and shows capacity for the chosen load. A headline capacity alone can hide a different passenger or freight configuration.
Read capacity and compartments
Section titled “Read capacity and compartments”Read the compartment details as physical spaces. Separate compartments can carry their loads together. Options within one compartment are alternatives: choose one, rather than adding their capacities. A cargo maximum assumes every compatible compartment carries that cargo; maxima for several cargos are not necessarily achievable together.
The Piasecki H-21 example below shows how one compartment offers different passenger and freight capacities. Changing the displayed cargo leaves its purchase and annual running costs unchanged. Compare the H-21 and Bell 47 for beverages to see cargo capacity alongside the other specifications.
Check the whole route
Section titled “Check the whole route”For your route, check these practical constraints:
- Availability: use the year filter, including the selected variant’s introduction and withdrawal dates.
- Facilities: match transport mode, size and any electrification requirement to the whole route.
- Loading: compare loading rate as well as capacity; terminal handling also affects time spent at a stop.
- Costs and performance: read purchase cost, running cost and speed together with the distance and load you intend to carry.
Use Reading the statistics for units and year-dependent ratings, and Stops, terminals and maintenance for facility choices.
A cargo choice changes capacity
Section titled “A cargo choice changes capacity”Piasecki H-21 Workhorse: 12–20 by cargo. Purchase and annual running costs remain the same for either load.
